A Memorial

2019

An Intervention at Bryant’s Grocery Store in Money, MS is the schematic design proposal for a memorial at the location where 15-year-old Emmett Till, an African American young man from Chicago visiting family in Mississippi in 1955, allegedly whistled at the 21-year-old white store owner, Carolyn Bryant. Because of this display of disrespect in the Jim Crow South, Emmett was murdered by Carolyn Bryant’s husband and brother-in-law. No one has even been charged for this atrocity.
